What is biltong?

Biltong is a traditional South African dried meat snack made by air-drying seasoned beef. Unlike jerky, biltong is never baked or smoked — it's cured with vinegar and spices then slowly air-dried, resulting in a tender, flavourful snack that's naturally high in protein.

What's the difference between biltong and jerky?

The main difference is in the preparation. Biltong is air-dried using a vinegar cure and whole cuts of meat, giving it a softer, more tender texture. Jerky is typically marinated and then heat-dried or smoked, resulting in a chewier, slightly sweeter product. Both are delicious — it just comes down to personal preference!

What is drywors?

Drywors (pronounced "dry-vors") is a traditional South African dried sausage. Made from seasoned beef and spices, it's air-dried to create a firm, flavourful snack stick. It's a staple in South African culture and a firm favourite at The Biltong Bar.

What are biltong chips?

Biltong chips are thinly sliced biltong that's been dried a little longer for a crispier texture. They have all the same great flavour as our classic biltong but with a satisfying crunch — perfect for snacking straight from the bag.

Is your beef grass-fed?

Yes! All of our products are made with 100% Australian grass-fed beef, sourced and produced right here on the Sunshine Coast.

Are your products keto-friendly?

Absolutely. Our biltong and biltong chips are zero carb and 100% keto friendly. Our jerky contains a small amount of sugar in the marinade, so check the nutritional info on our Ingredients & Nutrition page for details.

Do your products contain artificial preservatives?

No. We use no artificial preservatives, colours or additives in any of our products. The natural preservation comes from the air-drying process and the vinegar cure.
